ASCII LAB PRIVACY POLICY

This Privacy Policy explains how ASCII Lab processes personal data when you use the ASCII Lab iOS and iPadOS application, its widget, bundled legal and help screens, and related functionality (together, the "Service").

The Service is provided by Maksim Yaromau, Individual Entrepreneur, Georgia IP No. 302239897, legal address: 70 M. Tsinamdzgvrishvili street, Georgia ("ASCII Lab", "we", "us", or "our"). Contact: Yaromaum@gmail.com.

This English version is the official version. Translations are provided for convenience.

1. PRIVACY OVERVIEW

ASCII Lab does not require an account and does not operate its own backend for media processing. Photos and videos you select are processed on your device. We do not upload original or rendered media to our servers.

The Service uses Apple platform services, may use RevenueCat to manage purchase entitlements, and uses PostHog for privacy-safe product analytics and Session Replay only in eligible App Store production builds. ASCII Lab does not use advertising identifiers, sell personal data for money, or track you across other companies' apps or websites for advertising.

2. MEDIA YOU SELECT

When you choose a photo or video, the app receives the selected item through Apple's Photos picker. The app may inspect dimensions, duration, orientation, frames, color information, and audio tracks locally to preview and create the output you request.

Original media is copied to temporary app storage for editing and is intended to be removed when the editor closes or the source is replaced. Original media, rendered media, thumbnails, file names, file paths, URLs, and raw media metadata are not sent to PostHog or RevenueCat.

3. LOCAL OUTPUTS AND SETTINGS

Outputs you create, thumbnails, effect and export settings, dimensions, duration, creation date, audio mode, and local library metadata may be stored in the app's Application Support directory. Selected widget frames and limited routing state may be copied to the app's local App Group container so the widget can display them.

This information remains locally until you delete the related library item, clear or replace the widget selection, delete app data, uninstall the app, or the operating system removes it. Deleting local data may be irreversible, and we cannot recover local-only content.

The app uses Apple's Photos picker to let you select media. When you explicitly choose Save to Photos, it requests add-only Photos permission and writes the output to your Photos library. System share sheets send an output only to the destination you select. Apple and the selected destination control their own processing.

You may deny or revoke Photos permission in iOS Settings. Some requested features will not work without the relevant permission.

5. WIDGETS

If you select an output for the Home Screen widget, the app copies only the frames and state needed to render that widget into local App Group storage shared by the app and widget extension. Removing the selected library item clears the widget files. Widget content remains on your device and is not uploaded by ASCII Lab.

6. NOTIFICATIONS

If you grant notification permission, ASCII Lab can schedule a local alert for completion of a background export and, when enabled, an occasional local feature or return suggestion after at least four inactive days. Retention suggestions are limited to two in a rolling 30-day period. Notification preferences, locally aggregated activity and creation history, and pending schedules stay on device. ASCII Lab does not operate a push-notification server and does not upload notification content or device push tokens.

You can separately disable retention suggestions and background-export alerts in the app, and all notifications in iOS Settings.

7. PURCHASE AND ENTITLEMENT DATA

Apple processes App Store purchases, billing, subscription, trial, cancellation, refund, receipt, and transaction information under Apple's policies. We do not receive your full payment-card number.

When configured, RevenueCat receives and processes Apple purchase and entitlement information needed to load offerings, determine whether the ascii_lab_pro entitlement is active, complete or restore purchases, and keep access synchronized. This may include an app user identifier, product and offering identifiers, transaction or receipt information, purchase status, renewal status, and device/app context used by its service.

8. PRODUCT ANALYTICS

PostHog analytics runs only when all production conditions are met: a non-Debug, non-Simulator build configured for production, a real App Store receipt, and a configured PostHog token. Debug, Simulator, local Release, UI-test, and TestFlight builds use a no-op analytics client.

Eligible builds may send an anonymous device identifier and privacy-safe product interaction events, including app version and build, device class, screen or feature used, media type (photo or video only), effect identifier, coarse five-bucket editor settings, Boolean toggles, output resolution, frame rate, operation timing, entitlement state, paywall context, product identifier, localized price/currency shown by the store, trial eligibility, purchase/restore outcome, item counts, and stable generic error codes. GeoIP is disabled, so PostHog does not receive IP-derived location from these events.

Analytics must not include raw media, rendered media, thumbnails, audio, file names, file paths, URLs, raw metadata, source dimensions or duration, crop rectangles, share destinations, personal names, email addresses, phone numbers, location, user-entered text, generated identifiers, or raw error descriptions.

9. SESSION REPLAY

In eligible App Store production builds, PostHog Session Replay may record privacy-safe representations of app interactions to help us understand usability and reliability. Text inputs are globally masked. Surfaces displaying imported or generated media, including previews, crop content, library images, video playback, and sharing content, are marked to prevent capture.

Replay logs are disabled. Network telemetry is limited to technical measurements such as timing, size, and response status and does not include request or response bodies. Despite these safeguards, no masking system is infallible; contact us if you believe sensitive content was captured.

10. DATA WE PROCESS

Depending on use, ASCII Lab may process:

media and technical media attributes locally on your device;
locally saved outputs, thumbnails, settings, library records, widget frames, permission choices, notification state, onboarding state, and app preferences;
Apple and RevenueCat purchase, transaction, offering, restore, and entitlement information;
anonymous device identifiers, app/build information, device class, entitlement state, privacy-safe product interactions, generic error codes, and Session Replay data through PostHog in eligible production builds;
support emails, feedback, legal requests, and privacy requests that you choose to send to us.

11. HOW WE USE DATA

We process data to provide previews and exports; save, share, and display outputs at your request; operate the local library, widget, settings, and notifications; manage Free and Pro access; complete and restore purchases; maintain security and reliability; understand feature usage and improve the Service; respond to support, legal, and privacy requests; enforce our Terms; and comply with law and platform obligations.

12. LEGAL BASES FOR EEA/UK PROCESSING

Where EEA or UK law applies, our legal bases may include performance of a contract to provide requested app and paid functionality; consent for optional permissions and notifications; legitimate interests in privacy-safe analytics, product improvement, security, fraud prevention, support, and enforcing terms, balanced against your rights; and compliance with legal obligations.

13. WHEN DATA IS DISCLOSED

Data may be disclosed to:

Apple, for the operating system, Photos picker and library, sharing, notifications, widgets, App Store, StoreKit, purchases, subscription management, and refunds;
RevenueCat, when configured, for offerings, purchase processing support, entitlement status, and restore operations;
PostHog, in eligible App Store production builds, for privacy-safe analytics and Session Replay;
email and support providers when you contact us;
professional advisers, authorities, courts, regulators, or other parties where reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights, prevent fraud or misuse, or handle claims;
a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or asset transfer, subject to applicable protections.

We do not sell personal data for money and do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

14. RETENTION

Temporary imported media is intended to be deleted when the editor closes or its source is replaced. Saved outputs and related local records remain until deleted by you, the app, or the operating system. Widget files remain until the widget selection is cleared or replaced, the selected item is deleted, or the app is removed. Preferences and notification state remain until changed, cleared, or the app is removed.

PostHog, RevenueCat, Apple, email providers, and other recipients retain data under their own policies and as needed for analytics, entitlement management, billing, fraud prevention, security, support, accounting, legal compliance, and disputes. We retain communications only as long as reasonably needed for their purpose and applicable obligations.

15. YOUR CHOICES AND CONTROLS

You can choose which media to select; avoid saving an output; delete library items; replace or clear widget content by deleting its selected item; deny or revoke Photos and notification permissions; disable retention suggestions or background-export alerts; manage or cancel subscriptions through Apple; use Restore Purchases; and delete local app data by uninstalling the app.

Because no account is required and most content exists only on your device, we generally cannot access, export, correct, or delete local-only data for you.

16. PRIVACY RIGHTS

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or information about disclosures; object to certain processing; withdraw consent; and complain to a data-protection authority. U.S. state laws may provide similar rights and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them.

Submit a request to Yaromaum@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity and jurisdiction. Rights may be subject to lawful exceptions. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already performed lawfully.

17. CHILDREN AND MINORS

ASCII Lab is available to users of all ages. A minor who cannot consent under local law should use the Service only with permission and supervision from a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly seek directly identifying information from children and the app does not require an account.

If you believe a child provided personal data to us through support or another channel without appropriate permission, contact us so we can review and, where required, delete it.

18. INTERNATIONAL PROCESSING

Apple, RevenueCat, PostHog, email providers, and other recipients may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Those countries may have different privacy laws. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

19. SECURITY

We use reasonable technical, organizational, and administrative safeguards appropriate to the Service, including on-device processing, limited data collection, analytics allowlists, forbidden-field filtering, environment gates, media masking, secret separation, and platform security controls. No storage, transmission, or masking method is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

20. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

Third-party services are governed by their own privacy policies and security practices. We do not control their independent processing. Review their policies before using related functionality.

21. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy when the Service, providers, law, or platform requirements change. If required, we will provide notice through the Service or another reasonable method. The updated policy takes effect on the stated effective date.
